Content Marketing 101: Creating copy that actually brings in money
June 16, 2025 2 min read
Welcome to Content Marketing 101, where we cut through the fluff and give you the real-deal formula for writing copy that doesn’t just exist – it sells.
Whether you’re a small business owner, a side hustler, or just tired of writing social posts that land with a ‘meh’ or a ‘blah’, this blog is your new best friend.
Before we start, let’s answer this: what exactly is content marketing?
In plain English? It’s using valuable, relevant content to attract your ideal customers and get them to take action.
It’s content that your current audience absolutely loves and eats up anytime you share.
Think blog posts, emails, social media captions, landing pages… They are all working together to build trust, solve problems, and convert eyeballs into income for your business.
Ready to hear our four steps to getting this ride? Let’s goooo!
Step One: Know who you’re talking to.
We may be sounding like violins here, but understanding who you’re talking to is so key. What are they struggling with? What keeps them up at night? What do they wish someone would just explain simply?
Read these questions and go forth to create content that answers them.
Sometimes we don’t know what these questions are, so it often helps to just ask your customers or think about what your most frequently asked questions are.
See, not so hard.
Step Two: More human, less robot. Thanks.
We’re in an era of using wonderful tools like AI to help create our content. Don’t get us wrong. We love a supportive ChatGPT prompt. However, it’s so important to not rely on it word for word and instead, use it as a guide with your own brand’s flair.
In addition to that, be sure to remember that you’re not writing a uni essay. You’re starting a conversation.
Step Three: Focus on the value you can provide – not just the vibes you bring
If your post doesn’t teach, solve or inspire, it most likely won’t sell. A great habit to get into before you share a piece of content is ‘would I stop scrolling for this?’
Ask yourself:
Does this help someone take action?
Am I giving away something useful?
Would I stop scrolling for this?
Because here’s the thing… We buy from brands that help us, not just talk about themselves.
Step Four: The most obvious step (but it’s often missed)
Add a CLEAR Call to Action (CTA. Here’s where most content falls flat because we forget to share the next step.
What do you want the reader to do? Buy from you? Book a ticket? Learn more? Whatever it is, make sure you clearly state it.
Make it obvious, easy, and urgent. Don’t make the audience work hard for this otherwise they’ll just move on to the next post or buy from your competitor instead.
Our final thoughts from us… Content marketing isn’t about posting for the sake of it. It’s about creating copy with purpose. You know, the kind that gets noticed, gets shared, and ultimately gets the sales.
